The bougie yet practical minimalist mom’s baby registry guide. Pared down must haves.

  • Full size stroller: Bugaboo Fox 3 or Uppababy Vista V2
  • Travel stroller: Babyzen Yoyo 2
  • Car seat: Nuna Pipa Lite (with Fox 3) or Uppababy Mesa (with Vista V2)
  • Bassinet: Halo Bassinest Essentia, Halo bassinest sheet x 1 (1 sheet is already included w the bassinest purchase)
  • Swaddles: Pehr muslin swaddle x 2, Cloud Island flannel swaddle pack of 4 x 1, Love to Dream Newborn swaddles x 2 (make sure your baby likes before ordering more)
  • Bibs: Aden & Anais Burby Bips pack of 2 x 2 (make sure you like them before purchasing more)
  • Washcloths: Multipack of any bamboo washcloths, good to have at least 6-8
  • Onesies, bodysuit or kimono: Nest Designs organic cotton kimono style 3 pack x 1
  • Footies: Kyte bamboo footies x 4
  • Diapers: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn size x 1 pack (make sure you and your baby like before stocking up)
  • Wipes: Water Wipes
  • Diaper cream: Sudocrem
  • Diaper cream applicator: Bumco Baby Bum Brush
  • Change pad: Keekaroo Peanut Changer, Hatch Baby Grow, or other washable change pad (not essential but nice to have)
  • Bathing: Stokke Flexi Bathtub
  • Shampoo, bath gel, lotion: Your discretion or at Pediatrician’s recommendation
  • Pacifiers: Philips Avent 2 pack x 1
  • Bottles: Your discretion and as per your baby’s preference – for a preemie, disposable rubber nipples (we ordered Enfamil ones from Amazon) and 60-90mL NICU style bottles (we were given some by the NICU and ordered additional Medela ones from Amazon) work best
  • Bottle sterilizer: Munchkin Jumbo Microwave Bottle Sterilizer Bags, Baby Brezza Sterilizer
  • Bottle warmer: Munchkin Fast Bottle Warmer
  • Dish detergent: Dapple
  • Bottle brush, drying rack: Your discretion, anything works – OXO, Medela, and others make bottle brushes and even a clean kitchen towel works as a simple drying rack (we used a dish rack we found in our Airbnb)
  • Formula: Your discretion or at Pediatrician’s recommendation, good to have some on hand just in case even if planning to exclusively breastfeed or use donor breastmilk
  • Laundry detergent: Dapple
  • Laundry stain remover: Dapple
  • Dresser/organizer: Munchkin Nursery Essentials Organizer
  • Medical: Thermometer (simple underarm is fine), Baby Tylenol, Good Start Vitamin D Drops, Good Start Probiotic Drops, Little Remedies Gas Drops, Little Remedies Saline Nose Drops

And that’s it … that’s all you really need: no sound machines, portable shushers, special lights, robotic bassinets, or blackout blinds required. We are currently living in a compact one bedroom Airbnb so have chosen to forego a baby monitor, but plan to purchase one upon returning to our (larger) home in Canada. As baby grows, and as per his/her needs and preferences, and yours, you can add more but this is really all you need to get started with a newborn. I haven’t sacrificed on quality here, but by spending where you need to and saving where you can (such as the Munchkin Nursery Essentials Organizer rather than a Pottery Barn or even Ikea dresser), as well as only buying what you truly need, your registry can actually be reasonably economical. I will create a separate post featuring registry economics for your reference.
